Japan's finance chief says Takaichi isn't 'reflationist'

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is not a reflationist, her finance minister said, seeking to allay investor concerns her government would spend excessively and pressure the Bank of Japan to keep interest rates low.

"Prime Minister Takaichi always asks me to explain to people from overseas that she is not a reflationist, so we want to make sure there is no misunderstanding on that point," Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said in an interview Friday. 

Some market participants see Takaichi in the mold of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, her mentor who favored monetary easing by the central bank and flexible fiscal policy to help reflate the economy after decades of stagnation.
