Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is actively engaging in summit diplomacy with other leaders in Asia, Europe and the Middle East amid the prolonged crisis over Iran.

She apparently aims to demonstrate the benefits of Japan's unique diplomatic approach, with the country developing positive relations with many nations since the end of World War II.

Some are calling on Takaichi to play a greater role, however, as she looks reluctant to mediate between the United States and Iran although Tokyo has strong ties with both Washington and Tehran.
